Director Chihiro Amano, known for her keen depiction of human subtleties in the 2020 film Mrs. Noisy, which was also screened in the Japanese Cinema Splash section at the 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival, is set to release her latest film, Sato and Sato, in the fall of 2025. This original work, themed around “marriage,” will feature Yukino Kishii and Hio Miyazawa in dual leading roles.

 

＜STORY＞

Sachi Sato (22) is an energetic, outdoor-loving dancer, while Tamotsu Sato (23) is a serious, justice-driven homebody. Despite their opposite personalities, they hit it off and soon start dating and living together.

Five years later, Tamotsu, who dreams of becoming a lawyer, repeatedly fails the bar exam. However, Sachi wholeheartedly supports his determination to keep trying. Working as an office employee, Sachi decides to help Tamotsu in his studies so he won’t feel alone in his struggle. But after years of effort, while Tamotsu still hasn’t passed, Sachi unexpectedly succeeds in the exam instead…

Sachi feels guilty, while Tamotsu’s pride is shattered. Amidst these emotions, Sachi discovers she is pregnant, leading them to marry.

After giving birth, Sachi quickly returns to work as a lawyer, overwhelmed with her busy schedule. Meanwhile, Tamotsu juggles tutoring part-time, taking care of their son at home, and squeezing in time for bar exam studies—but he finds it impossible to focus. As their daily lives grow more chaotic, Sachi forgets to prepare their son for school, and her sloppiness at home frustrates Tamotsu. Their differing views on parenting create further friction, and the delicate balance they once maintained begins to crumble…?
