<STORY>
In the 1990s, THE YELLOW MONKEY swept the music scene with their unique glamorous style and poetic lyrics, captivating fans then and continuing to do so today. At the helm, vocalist Kazuya Yoshii is beloved across generations for his powerful presence and deeply resonant lyrics.
Yoshii’s journey as a musician began with his meeting ERO, the vocalist of URGH POLICE. As a teenager, Yoshii joined the band as a bassist, but musical differences eventually led to the band’s natural dissolution. Later, Yoshii formed THE YELLOW MONKEY with friends he met through URGH POLICE. Meanwhile, ERO stayed in Shizuoka, working locally and discovering a passion for country music. Despite taking different musical paths, the two maintained their friendship.
In 2021, ERO suffered a cerebral infarction, leaving him unable to work or pursue music. Wanting to support his longtime friend, Yoshii proposed a 40-year-later reunion: “Shall we play the URGH POLICE songs together again?” This became the focus of a documentary capturing their journey.
Just months into filming, Yoshii was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer. Even so, he continued production and devoted himself to relentless rehearsals, navigating countless challenges. Eventually, he made a decisive choice that led to the long-awaited “day of revival” at Tokyo Dome, a moment celebrated by staff and fans alike.
About three months after the concert, Yoshii returned to Shizuoka to fulfill his promise to ERO, preparing for their first session together in 40 years since URGH POLICE.
