■an open prison
An open correctional facility where inmates live and work in an environment resembling life in the outside world as they prepare for reintegration into society. Only well-behaved inmates selected from prisons nationwide are housed at these facilities, which aim to facilitate their smooth reintegration into society and prevent reoffending. There are currently four such facilities in Japan, located in Ehime, Hiroshima, Chiba, and Hyogo Prefectures. This film is based on a facility in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture.
